Graphic of Money

Pack 6 will NOT let any Scouts' financial situation be a barrier to participating in Scouting.

Like any activity, there are a few costs associated with Scouting. While it's not as cheap as it used to be, it's often less expensive than similar activities like seasonal sports. Explore the costs below.

We offer multiple fundraising opportunities every year to help the scouts learn to be thrifty and pay their own way, and options are available for financial hardships.

Fundraising

Pack 6 will NOT let any Scouts' financial situation be a barrier to participating in Scouting.

We offer multiple fundraising opportunities every year to help the scouts learn to be thrifty and pay their own way. These opportunities are optional, but are great educational tools for Scouts. Examples include selling popcorn, camp cards, and meat sticks.

For most fundraising activities (amounts vary by activity), a percentage of the sales goes to Circle 10 Council, a percentage to the Pack, and a percentage to the Scout in the form of an "escrow" fund that can be used toward paying for any scout related item or activity (a tent, pack dues, a special event...).

National Dues - $85 Annually (as of 8/1/24)

The National Dues are paid directly to BSA National when you first register, and then every 12 months when your membership renews. These dues cover licensing, leader training, program development fees, insurance, and national campsite maintenance.

Pack Dues - $80 Annually (as of 8/1/24)

Pack Dues are paid directly to Pack 6 and stay in the Pack. They are paid every year, usually around Thanksgiving. These dues cover awards, den supplies, pack t-shirts, pinewood derby cars, and help lower the costs of some special events and campouts.

Uniforms - $0 - $200

Uniforms are not -required-, but are highly encouraged as a method of scouting. They serve a dual purpose, demonstrating that a Scout is part of a team and showing individual achievement (Scouts wear the badges they’ve earned). Wearing the uniform to meetings and activities also encourages a neat appearance,  and good behavior.

Pack 6 is a "Belt Up" unit, meaning we don't particularly care about the 'official' pants or socks, but we highly encourage the 'official' belts, shirts, neckerchiefs, and hats. These items are sometimes available as donations at our local Scout Hut, can often be found at thrift shops for a low cost, or are available to purchase new (but not cheap) at our local Scout Shop.

There are also several Facebook groups available that can sometimes have good deals:

If sized properly, most Cub uniforms will last a good 2-3 years. Check the FAQ for information on uniform components.

Events - $0+

Every year Pack 6 Scouts get to attend lots of really cool events. Whether its camping as a Pack, summer camps, sleepovers on battleships or in sports stadiums, there are all sorts of unique opportunities for Cub Scouts to participate in. Some of these events do have their own costs. These fees often cover compensating volunteers, food/catering, special activities or supplies like horse riding or leather-working, or venue entry fees.

Scout Life Magazine - $15 (Optional)

Scout Life is a magazine published by the Boy Scouts of America. They publish 10 issues a year, and the magazines are addressed directly to the Scout (so they get their own mail!). The cost is $15 a year (with discounts for multiple years). You can find more information (and subscribe) here: https://scoutlife.org/.
